Opal Rosella (Johnson) Winjum, 97, Rapid City and formerly of Cheyenne, WY, passed away peacefully at her very special home at There’s A Hart Assisted Living Center Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Opal was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, WY and of Restored Life Outreach Fellowship in Rapid City. She was born August 9, 1915 in Pleasanton, NE, to Nels and Tina Johnson and married James O. Winjum, Sr on July 4, 1937 in Ravenna, NE. Opal was a homemaker and loved caring for her family. She lived her life to the fullest. She loved decorating for and celebrating holidays, and in her retirement years, enjoyed the many senior citizen bus tours she took. You always knew where Opal was as you heard her laughter. She always had a smile on her face and brought a smile to all who knew her. Opal loved to cook and worked as a cafeteria pastry maker and server at McCormick Junior High in Cheyenne and at Chadwell Hall on F.E. Warren Air Force Base. She later worked in the gift shop at Holdings Little America in Cheyenne until her retirement. Grateful for having shared her life are daughter Judith Randall, Cheyenne; her son Jim and his wife Linda Winjum, Rapid City; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James O Winjum Sr., April 14, 1967, her mother, father, and sister. | |
