Marian M. Goergen

Marian M. Goergen, 82, Rapid City died Friday Dec. 25, 2009 at Golden Livingcenter Prairie Hills. She was born May 29, 1927 in Woonsocket, SD to Adolph and Zita Ann (McCall) Schmidt. Marian attended elementary school in Aurora County and graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1945. Marian worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Sioux Falls until her marriage to Carl Goergen on June 29, 1946. They farmed near Woonsocket until moving to Rapid City in 1958. Marian attended National College of Business in 1967 and worked for insurance companies until 1973 when she became involved in childcare. Marian was a member of the Women of the Moose #7327 and Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Marian is survived by her children, Daniel J. Goergen, Sturgis; Dorothy A. Smith, Rapid City; Carla M. Fitzner, Gillette, WY; David J. Goergen and Diane J. Goergen; both of Rapid City; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 brothers, Wilfrid Schmidt and Albert Schmidt, both of Woonsocket. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl Goergen, Nov. 1, 2004; son-in-law Dale Smith; grandson, Adam Dale; sister Catherine Robbins and her parents.
