October 18, 1954 - August 26, 2009 Service Date: August 31, 2009 Visitation will be held Sunday, August 30th from 5-7pm followed by a rosary/wake service @ 7pm at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM, Monday, August 31st at St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Zandri as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Rapid City. |

Gerald Jund, age 54 and best known to his family and friends as ‘Gerry’ died Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Rapid City Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born October 18, 1954 in Eureka, SD, the 8th child of nine, to John R. and Rose (Salwei) Jund. He spent his early years on the family farm near Zeeland, ND and moved with his family in 1960 to Mobridge, SD. He attended grade school there and graduated from Mobridge High School in 1973. He later attended the Aberdeen School of Commerce and was employed for 10+ years at the 3M plant where he served as Vice President of the 3M Club. He married Maureen McIntyre June 10, 1977 in Aberdeen and two children were born to this union. In 1986 he moved with his family to Ames, IA where he joined his sister and brother-in-law helping in numerous capacities of their funeral home. They returned to South Dakota and located in Hot Springs where he once again was employed by his family in funeral service. He moved to Rapid City in 1990 and was employed at Furniture Mart, Ace Hardware, Black Hills Workshop and then Menard’s before being forced to retire due to ill health. His talents were varied, as those who were recipients of his generosity will attest, however his cake baking abilities for birthdays and weddings as well as his work with ceramics were his favorite. Gerry was a member of St. Therese the Little Flower Catholic Church, Rapid City. Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife of 32 years, Maureen Jund, his daughter Stacy and her husband, Clay Soby; son, Jesse Jund; and the real light of his life, granddaughter, Savanna Soby, all of Rapid City; 4 brothers: Francis (Carol) Jund, Mobridge, Joe (Eleanor) Jund, Aberdeen, John (Carla) Jund, Pierre and Mike (Sharon) Jund, Davenport, IA; 4 sisters: Mary (James) Holzer, Stevens Point, WI, Eva (Darrold) Fischer, Mobridge, Caroline (Mike) Jackson, Broomfield, CO and R. Sally (Daryl) Isburg, Ft. Pierre; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. | |
