Bruce Drickey

Bruce Drickey died at the Golden Livingcenter Prairie Hills in Rapid City , South Dakota on December 11, 2007 after a short illness. He was 71 years old. Born on April 20, 1936, Bruce Drickey lived all of his life in Caputa, South Dakota, until he moved to the Golding Living Center in June if this year. He went to school in Caputa through the sixth grade, after which he lived and worked as a rancher on family’s ranches. Bruce was an invaluable asset to his uncle, George Sanders, as a cattleman and horseman, and later shared a property north of Caputa with his mother, Josephine (Sanders) Drickey. Bruce was stricken with epilepsy as a young man and never operated machinery. All of his ranch work was done on the back of a horse, behind a team of horses or on his two strong feet. Bruce was perhaps one of the last true cowboys of the 20th century. Bruce will be remembered most for his deep ties to the Caputa community and his love of family and friends. He was always eager to have a friend come by for a visit, and especially looked forward to visits from his nieces, nephews and youngsters in extended family, including them in simple chores around the ranch. He was passionate about his work and ranching lifestyle, and enjoyed sharing these simple pleasures with others. Later in life, Bruce retired to a house closer to Caputa, sharing it with his mother and sister. Bruce Drickey is preceded in death by his mother Josephine Drickey, sister Shirley Drickey and brother Darrell Drickey. Bruce Drickey is survived by his nieces, Linda Alexander of Pocatello, Idaho and Sheryl Seel of Windsor, California, nephew Roger Drickey of Salt Lake City, Utah, sister-in-law Marty Drickey of Sunnyvale, California, great-nephews Derek Jones, Nicholas Seel and great-niece Catherine Seel, friends Stacia Schulhoff and Cindy Riter, and innumerable cousins and friends in the community.Later in life, Bruce retired to a house closer to Caputa, sharing it with his mother and sister.Bruce Drickey is preceded in death by his mother Josephine Drickey, sister Shirley Drickey and brother Darrell Drickey.Bruce Drickey is survived by his nieces, Linda Alexander of Pocatello, Idaho and Sheryl Seel of Windsor, California, nephew Roger Drickey of Salt Lake City, Utah, sister-in-law Marty Drickey of Sunnyvale, California, great-nephews Derek Jones, Nicholas Seel and great-niece Catherine Seel, friends Stacia Schulhoff and Cindy Ritter, and innumerable cousins and friends in the community.
