William G. Lewis, Jr.

William G. Lewis, Jr, 86, Newcastle , WY died Sunday Sept. 30, 2007 at the Weston Co. Health Services. William was born May 2, 1921 in Steele , ND to William G. Sr and Esther M. (Mowry) Lewis. William worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Black Hills , until he entered the US Army serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He later served in the Army National Guard. He married Dorothy M. Rohde on June 13, 1946 . William was a maintenance supervisor at the Black Thunder Coal Mine in Wright, WY retiring in 1983. He loved gardening, canning his produce and was an avid fisherman. William is survived by 3 sons, Roger Lewis, Chadron, NE; Bill (Carol) Lewis III, Rapid City; Joe Lewis, Newcastle, WY; 3 daughters, Karen (Don) Thompson, Chadron, NE, Ruth Mattison, Lisbon, IA; Gloria Hoover, Newcastle, WY; 10 grandchildren including Charlie Lewis, whom he raised; 15 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Isabelle Christopherson, Rapid City; Rose Juhl, Rapid City; Lucille Stephani, Long Island, NY and 1 brother, Charles (Eva) Lewis, Rapid City and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy in 1989; daughter Margaret in 1974; son Jim in 1986; his parents, brother Robert Lewis; sister Anna Peterson.
