Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday February 1st at Behrens Wilson Funeral Home, 632 St Francis St.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Friday February 2nd at Behrens Wilson. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.

Stanley Stuart Lieberman, 100, of Rapid City, passed away on January 25th, 2018.

Stan was born in Worcester Massachusetts to Jacob and Anna Lieberman on July 16, 1917. He worked for his family’s business’ until joining the US Army Air Corp in 1940. While stationed at Wheeler Field/Schofield Barracks (Pearl Harbor) he engaged in battle on December 7th, 1941 “when a bomb came for me!” He was a B-17 aerial photographer and tail gunner until discharged when stationed at Ellsworth AFB. He married Delphine Estelle Cuny of Rockyford SD in 1944 settled in Rapid City and later worked for KOTA. Throughout his life he remained engaged with the community as President(s) of Black Hills Sportsmen Club, the Fair Board, and Canyon Lake League. He was Post 22 umpire as well as a founding member of Rushmore Retriever Club and Commissioner of South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission.

Stan is survived by Children Judi Gutzmer, Robert Lieberman, Lori Lieberman, William Lieberman and Scott Lieberman: 12 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great Grand Children. He is preceded in death by his wife Delphie who died on January 24th, 2013 who will be interred together with Stan.

 

Stanley’s family is grateful to so many people who contributed to his independence through their friendship and time. Beyond his Labrador Retriever “Pickles” Stan had no better or steadfast friend than Paul Vinatieri.
