Valeria 'Val' Monroe

Valeria “Val” Monroe, 37, Rapid City, died October 23, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Valeria was a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. She was born in Rapid City, SD to Olowan Monroe and Russell Flying By. She attended and graduated from Eagle Butte High School in Eagle Butte, SD. Valeria worked at a local restaurant in the Rapid City area as a waitress. She is preceded in death by her brother Robert Whirlwind Horse. Valeria is survived by her mother and father, daughter Angela, special friend Ron Turner, brother Anthony Monroe, half-sisters Amy Flying By and Susan Flying By, sister Katy Whirlwind Horse, nieces Cassidy Poor Bear and Erna Poor Bear, cousin Carmen Poor Bear, and many extended family.
