Service Date August 12, 2015

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City.

Waldemar Lee Asheim. 96, Hermosa, died Friday, August 7, 2015 at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.He was born March 18, 1919 on a farm in Elm Springs to Oscar Earl and Golda Violet (Moorhead) Asheim. He attended schools in Elm Springs, one year of high school in Lead, graduated from New Underwood High School in 1938 and later one year of college at SDSM & T.Waldemar married Enid Johnson on August 20, 1939 in Elm Springs. He was in the US Navy during WW II as a Radar Technician receiving an honorable discharge October 16, 1945.Upon his discharge, he returned to the Rapid City area where he began working for Gambles.In 1956, he moved with his family to Brush, CO where they purchased a Gambles Store. They attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church while in Brush.Returning to Rapid City in 1982, they have lived in the same house near Hermosa and attended Trinity Lutheran Church.In retirement, Waldemar cut and polished rocks for jewelry and belt buckles. He travelled extensively and attended numerous auctions and flea markets. He was a member of Keystone Senior Citizen’s Center as well as a metal detector’s club.He is survived by his wife of 75yrs, 11mos., 14days, Enid Asheim, Hermosa; 3 daughters, Amy Golda Alford, Rapid City, Trudi Enid Glassburn, Sidney, NE, Jean Arlene(Don) Taylor, Brush, CO; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and a brother, Dwain (Irene) Asheim, Sturgis.He was preceded in death by a son, Waldean Dwain Asheim, a daughter, Evonne Kay Gabriel; 3 grandchildren, Travis, Alma, Rachel, a great grandson, Dean and 3 brothers, Robert, Harold and Boyce.Waldemar was a peaceful man who was helpful, generous and could make anybody feel comfortable. He was a good neighbor and could fix anything.
