I feel very blessed to have briefly known Vern. We are friends of the Gulliksons and were visiting them when I had the chance to have a long chat with this interesting man. I am sure he will be missed by all! Our love goes out to his family and friends. Rest in Eternal Peace, Vern.

Vern and I were friends for 50 years we met while I was working at berkland auto Vern would roll up in his Cadillac and walk in like he owned the place. I became friends with him and he helped change my life.we shared years of fun,I was there for him and he was there for me in good times and bad.he was always looking forward and kept going despite the many challenges placed before him.we would talk on the phone several times a month we would try to keep each other up even when we were not feeling good. I can say that we loved each other as best friends. I will miss his laugh and his big smile.i feel very lucky to have known him for so many years,i will miss him,he was a big part of my life.he wasn’t perfect but he was my friend and that was good enough for me

Vern Johnson and I were best friends from an early age in boy scouts to his death. It was 68 years as best friends. We laughed and cried together, we played together, we shared our inner most thoughts and visions together. Vern and I hit it off from the first meeting and were very close through childhood. Vern's fondest of our childhood days which he talked about often and just past few weeks were; during a very cool winter scout campout I was freezing and crawled into Vern's sleeping bag with him; countless hours of both of us boating on the Rock River together, but never being all to get Vern up on skies; taking the boat to Lake Geneva and getting nearly swamped in a big storm and spending an unforgettable couple weeks at Philmont Scout Ranch. As adults were went our own ways but visited when we could and a continuous contact in writing and phone calls over the years. He was a major support to me when my wife died. I will miss his smile and telling him jokes that always seem to get him laughing; I will miss that warmth and feeling of comfort that a best friend can give. I will miss that big Swed. I love you Vern

I loved Vern’s unique way of looking at the world. I worked with his former wife Linda and we used to go out as couples on Thursday’s for dinner. We had lively discussions about religion and current events. Vern had a wonderful smile and could bring a ray of sunshine into a gloomy day.
