Thais J. Roberts, 91, passed away September 21, 2009 at Clarkson Mt. View Health Care Facility. Thais was born June 29, 1918 to Harry and Ruby Donalson Roberts in Witten, SD. She lived on the farm for nine years before moving to Mills, NE where they had the store and PO for five years then moved to Wood, SD. It was the Great Depression when living was difficult so they made their last move to Rapid City. Thais graduated from Rapid City High School in 1936. She was employed at Safeway on the corner of St. Patrick and Elm. She then went to work at American National Bank, now known as US Bancorp. She worked as a teller there until 1983. After retirement, Thais spent her time enjoying her cat, Honey, baking her famous pies and goodies, making beautiful calendars and embroidering for her friends and neighbors, driving her trusty black 1963 Chevy Impala, and reading everything about the Civil War. During her lifetime, Thais enjoyed the outdoors and loved animals, particularly cats. She rode horses on the family farm and even had a pet badger. She enjoyed all the visits and letters from her many friends, especially these past few years. She was a humble but positive person who often asked why people were her friends and loved her so much. We all know why. Thais is survived by several cousins and many friends, who will miss her greatly and cherish their memories of this very gracious and thoughtful lady. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Ruby and her sister Mildred.
