Sylvia (Buresh) Christensen, 91, joined her husband Raymond H. Christensen in eternal rest on Thursday, June 5, 2009 when she passed away at her home in Rapid City, SD. Sylvia was born in 1918 to Joseph and Antonia (Berankova) Buresh in Dodge, Nebraska. In 1928 the family moved from Dodge to a farm north of Batesland, SD where she grew up. On March 20, 1938 Sylvia married her loving husband of sixty years, Raymond, in Rapid City. After living a few years in California and Colorado where Ray worked for Lockheed Aircraft and the REA, they settled down permanently in Rapid City. In addition to being a stay-at-home Mom, Sylvia also worked several years for Grandview Trailer Sales and Kings X Lodge. In her spare time she enjoyed baking, sewing, numerous handcrafting hobbies and bowling. She completed an extensive written and photo record for the family’s history. Sylvia and Ray took many camping, fishing, sight seeing and polka dancing trips near and far in the family camper. They enjoyed the Senior Center trips to Deadwood, checking out garage sales and auctions. In her later years Sylvia was content to remain at home, busying herself around her yard, doing beadwork and became the cookie lady extraordinaire. Sylvia is survived by her daughter Patsy and husband Charles Knapp, daughter Frances and husband John Eichinger, son Raymond and wife Cheryl Christensen; six grandchildren; nine and a half great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; her sister Helen Vavra, brother Robert Buresh, half-sister Vlasta (Pat) Kirk and half-brother Frank Buresh. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; sisters, Emma Kuxhaus and Wilma Michel; brothers Joe, Ed, and Adolph Buresh and parents Joseph and Antonia Buresh.
