Stephen Nelson Haas, M.D.

March 18, 1941 - October 30, 2020

U.S. Veteran

In honor of his lifelong passion for teaching and medicine and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations made in his name be directed towards Medical Student Education at University of South Dakota Medical School via the Alumni Student Scholar Program at the Sanford School of Medicine.

In keeping with his dying wishes, his memorial will be a “no fuss” private service held later in November, and in the spring his ashes will be interred at his ranch.

Share your Memorial with Family & Friends

Dear Judy, Christy and Peter, we are grieved for your family. Bless you in your time of grief with strength and fond memories of Steve. We are all Hermosa school family friends with fond memories of our children's friendship and activities with you. And our celebrations in our monthly group gatherings in our younger years.

Judy and family, We are so sorry to hear of Steve's passing. We will always remember the wonderful times our kids had hunting with Steve. The memories and laughs that were shared are priceless. He taught them so much. He even managed to convince me that pheasant cooked right is delicious when he prepared a meal in our home. We know you have so many memories to treasure. Steve loved his family so much and shared his pride in you all. Norman and Shelby

I’m so sorry for your loss. Dr. Haas took such good care of me after I had thyroid cancer. It was a scary time but I always felt he went over and above in my care. He was truly a blessing to me. Thanks for sharing him.

It would be impossible to list all the reasons why Dr Haas meant so much to our family. I will not be the only person who is able to attest to his kindness and wealth of knowledge. He was a wonderful doctor and was so willing to meet his patients on what ever level they were at. He shared shared his knowledge, his empathy, and his humor. I first met him while working at Regional where he was the one and only endocrinologist for a very long time. I always learned something from him. He had a sense of humor that was not always evident, but it was there and showed up when you least expected it. I hope that all of his family knows how grateful the community is for sharing him with us. God bless Dr Haas and God bless his family.
