Rachel E. (Entzminger) Reider, 101, Rapid City, died Sunday Oct 20, 2013 at Westhills Village Healthcare. Rachel was born on January 26, 1912 to Jake and Opal (Houser) Entzminger at Moran, KS. Her father passed away when she was 5 months old. At age 1 she moved to LaHarpe, KS and at age 9 she moved to Douglas, WY where her mother filed on a homestead. Rachel graduated salutatorian from Douglas High School in 1929. She attended the University of Colorado for 3 years until the depression forced her to return home. She taught country school near Douglas during which time she met L.C. (Pink) Reider, a ranch hand on a neighboring ranch. They married in Lusk, WY on June 15, 1938. Pink and Rachel raised 3 children: Carol, Robert (Bub) and Julie, all born in Douglas. Pink became cattle foreman at Careyhurst Ranch where they lived for 3 years. In 1941 they became owners of the Abney Ranch between Glenrock and Douglas where they remained until 1948 when they purchased the George Marty ranch located between Hot Springs and Edgemont, SD. They lived there until 1975 when they retired and moved to Hot Springs. In 1992, they relocated to Westhills Village in Rapid City. Pink passed away in 1998 and Rachel continued to live there until her passing. Rachel was a lifetime member of Woodbine Chapter of Eastern Star in Douglas and was active in Job’s Daughters in Hot Springs with her daughters. She belonged to the Cowbells’, Farm Bureau, and was a loyal supporter of the Republican Party. She enjoyed working as Deputy Auditor of Fall River County During the 1960’s. She spent countless hours being a 4-H mother. Rachel was a talented seamstress and in later years proudly supplied family and friends with afghans. Rachel’s interesting observations and sense of humor will be missed by her children, Carol (Roger) Givens, Albuquerque, NM; Robert (Darlene) Reider, Milliken, CO and Julie (Fred) Waxler, Pierre; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 11:30 to 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct 24, 2013 at McColley’s Chapels of the Hills Funeral Home, Hot Springs, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m., at the Minnekahta Cemetery with Pastor Morris Nelson officiating.
