So sad to learn of Merle's passing. I met Merle way back in the mid 80's on the INFR rodeo trails, We hung out together a few times and I fell in love but I didn't share that with Merle; he was my cowboy crush. Merle has always been and will continue to be tucked away in that special place in my heart. Ironically, Merle and I shared the same exact birthday and we had made a pact that even if we went our separate ways that we would fondly give a toast to each other wherever we were at. I kept my pact—as each year on September 3, I gave a toast and cheered in the direction of South Dakota. It's awesome to read the wonderful tributes that Merle was a fine humble and caring cowboy as that is what I remember of him. I'm deeply saddened to know that he had cancer but it's wonderful to read that he had those who loved him dearly were by his side. My deepest condolences to family and friends. Merle, RIP and enjoy heaven's ranch.

When Merle & AJ came into the office they Always had a smile & Merle had a joke. He was always taking care of AJ & very proud of him. You could see the father, son Pride & love for each other. Merle was a true Western rancher & took pride in what he did. He will be missed by his family, friends & loved ones. Merle started going to Curch & was a Christian. We know we will see him in that rodeo & ranching in heaven. God Bless him & his family. AJ stay strong bud, your Dad would not want You to change the way he raised you, as hard as it may be. Know in you heart that he is always looking down on you smiling with pride.

To the family of Merle Temple, I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Merle. He was a true cowboy, in heart, soul and mind. I guess besides Merle, the only one I know in your family is Curtis. Curtis, I wish you the best. May you have peace. To all the family, may the memories and thoughts of Merle knowing that he is in peace now ease your pain and mourning. God Bless you all, Terry Roper Hubbard feeds

Merle and I met years ago at a horse sale. Over the years we shared a laugh or two, his smile would light up a room. So sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. May the knowledge that he is now with our Lord and Savior be of comfort. RIP cowboy.

May the Angels and Gods words of comfort be with Merle’s family and sweet AJ. Merle was such a proud Daddy. I’ll never forget how his smile beamed with Love and Pride to be AJ’s Daddy. He was an awesome guy and will truly be missed by all ??. One fine cowboy rides to Heaven in a saddle fit for his king. God’s arms were wide open when he left this world? With love Ruthie and Wiener

Our Heavenly Father, we pause at this time, mindful of the many blessings you have bestowed upon us. We ask, Lord, that you will be with us in the arena of life. We as cowboys do not ask for special favors. We don't ask to draw around the chute fighting horse, the steer that won't lay, or to never break the barrier. We don't even ask for all daylight runs. We do ask Lord, that you will help us live our lives here on earth as cowboys, in such a manner, that when we make that last inevitable ride, to the country up there, where the grass grows lush, green, and stirrup high, and the water runs cool, clear, and deep, that you'll take us by the hand and say - "Welcome to Heaven cowboy, your entry fees are paid."

I was so sorry to hear this. Altho I never knew Merle I heard some stories about him from my cousin Blair Hamilton. I can say I've probably never laughed so hard, I think they had some really good times. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Merle was one of the finest people I have ever known. Without him, I could not have stayed in my little cabin in the Badlands for so many years. He was always there to lend a helping hand and often, just did what needed to be done before I even asked. He would never accept any payment. He was always there for me and I considered him to be family. There will be a huge void in my life now but I have to believe he is riding his horses in a better place. AJ will always know his dad was a very special man who loved him with all his heart .There is a special star in the Badlands sky tonight. Godspeed, my dear friend. You are missed. You are loved. Rest in peace. You have earned it.
