Lloyd Dennis Ward, 80 Rapid City unexpectedly left our world Sunday, November 23, 2008 while attending church services. Lloyd was born in Huron, SD on May 20, 1928 to Finis and Florence. He grew up on the family farm east of Pipestone, MN and graduated from Pipestone High in 1946. In January 1951 Lloyd joined the US Army and served as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne at Fort Campbell, KY until January 1953. On May 17, 1952, he married his hometown sweetheart, Phyllis Lessin. From this union came 2 daughters and 2 sons. While raising their family, Lloyd and Phyllis called Sioux Falls home until the spring of 1974, when they moved to the Black Hills. Lloyd enjoyed family, fishing and camping. The humorous tales of adventure make for delightful memories for his children and grandchildren. As a trucker (handle-MonkeyWard) he spent years on the road, logging many, many miles. Even after retirement you could find him having coffee at the Windmill Truck Stop, reminiscing the perils of the road with fellow truckers. He was an active member of Piedmont Grace United Methodist Church and the Piedmont American Legion. He will be remembered fondly as a caring husband, father, grampa and friend. His chuckle will be missed by many. Lloyd is survived by 2 daughters, Jill and husband Gary Logan, Rapid City; Julie Terry, Black Hawk; 2 sons, Johnny and wife Maren Ward, Rapid City; Scott and wife Linda Ward, Piedmont; 5 grandchildren, Cody (Jacob) Wolkowitz, Ryan Logan, Angela, Jessica and Emily Terry; 1 great grandson, Ethan; 1 sister, Lois Stueven, Pipestone, MN and 1 brother Lyle Ward, Estherville, IA. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Phyllis in 2005, his parents and his brother Leslie.
