Hud waged a brave and courageous battle against a rare disease known as Wegeners-Granulomatosis, a form of Vasculitis. After a valiant fight for life, Hud Benjamin Smith passed away Saturday January 22, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City SD surrounded by friends and family. Born in Eau Claire, WI, September 14, 1974 he is survived by his beloved mother, Linda S Smith and his step-father, James W. Kalhorn, Rapid City. He was the much loved and only brother to his four surviving sisters, Connie L. Smith, Christina J. Kinser, Kendra S. Hass and Shannon R. Smith; his surviving father, Richard L. Smith and step-mother Maggie Smith, Augusta, WI. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Steven L Hass, Cary M. Kinser and Jason R. Ader. He was the adored uncle to Teegan J. Hass and Cameron M. and Cara M. Kinser. Friends are the family we meet along the way and the family wishes to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Ron, Penny, Nick and Danielle Kaiser, all of Rapid City, for their love and support of Hud throughout the years and most importantly during this last most difficult year. After graduating from Stevens High School in 1993, Hud made his home in Tempe, AZ where he owned his own landscaping business. He shared his life for eight years with Jennifer L. Morris and his beloved four legged companions Sunny and Blue. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hike, camp and fish. On any given Sunday you could find him either watching football, listening to music or watching movies. To know him was to make a lifelong friend and confidant. He had an incredible sense of humor and was adored by all who knew him. The stars in the sky shine brighter now that he is among them. He will live in our hearts forever. The family also wishes to extend our most sincere gratitude to all of the Doctors and Nurses at Rapid City Regional Hospital for all that you were able to do for our loved one in his last month of life.
