GeraldC. Fossum, 84, Rapid City,died Sunday, April 24, 2011at Rapid CityRegionalHospiceHouse.He wasborn Dec. 12,1926 to Juliusand Ida(Skaare) Fossum in Pierpont. Hegrew up inthe Pierpontarea graduatingfrom PierpontHigh School in1944. Followingthe death of hisfather, he remained on the farm untilentering the U.S. Army onOct. 20, 1950. He was honorably discharged July 19,1952.Gerald graduated with aBusiness Degree fromSouth Dakota State University. On June 10, 1961 hemarried Vivian Wiedenmeyer in Sioux Falls. Theyremained in Sioux Falls until moving to Huron in 1964where he worked for andretired from the Farmer’sHome Administration.While living in Huron hewas a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church andformer President of the Lion’s Club.In 1990 Gerald and Vivian moved to Rapid Citywhere he was active at theSouth Canyon LutheranChurch. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.He is survived by hiswife, Vivian Fossum, RapidCity; two sons, Drew (Sandra) Fossum, Omaha, Neb.,and Reed (Lana) Fossum,Spearfish; five grandchildren; his brother, ErwinFossum, Fargo, N.D.; andhis sister, Hazel Badgley,Mobridge.He was preceded indeath by two brothers, Ivanand Earl; and his sister,Marilyn Edman.
