Gavyn is my big bro and I can't wait to see him again. Even though I didn't see all that much we would still talk on the phone or text on snapchat. He would always call me bro and I liked that and will never forget that. He was very much a cat person because I remember his friends telling me that. His horse smokey joe is a good horse.

I'm not a relative or even a longtime friend. Gavyn probably thought of me as the old guy across the street who let him pick through my candy bowl for… seems like butterscotch or root beer barrels… It’s been a while. Listening to people reminiscing yesterday caused me to recall a time when, looking across the street as neighbors do, I realized it was pickup day and saw that Kevin had the dumpster out on the curb and a cardboard box of something and a couple bags of yard waste, etc. I don’t remember what all, but the wind must have come up and blown things around and the box was up on the sidewalk. Suddenly, the box ‘stood up’ and moved down the sidewalk. Well guess who had created an old school toy. Gavyn would patiently wait for passers-by to show up and then he’d either reach out of the ‘eye hole’ and grab them or follow them down the street. That will always be a memory that helps when I'm down. To use an old school term, I don’t think Gavyn would be considered a square by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ll probably always remember him as a cube.

Dear Ashley and Family, My prayers are with you all, and I am so sorry for your loss. Gavyn was so fun to have in my daycare. I remember him playing with his brother and other kids and made them all laugh all the time. I also remember he enjoyed taking them for walks when we lived out in Whispering Pines, and then come in and play video games to chill... Gavyn, you will be missed. Hugs and thoughts are with you all. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. Sincerely, Stephanie

We have not stopped praying for your family since hearing this terrible news. Our hearts go out to you and may Jesus watch over Gavyn in Heaven.

I don't know what words to share that will fully express our deep sorrow to all of you at this time. There is an empty place where Gavyn should be, and we will miss him terribly. We look forward to the day when we will greet him in heaven, and wrap our arms around him. My best memory is of Gavyn laying in our yard on Halloween with his hunting/camouflage suit on. He blended in with the fall leaves and surprised the heck out of me when he popped up! Our dear boy.

Gavyn was a sweet, kind first grader who always had a smile to share. He was smart and artistic. His memory will not be forgotten, as we work to make all children feel connected and loved this school year. Many prayers to your family as you go through this terribly hard time. God's peace and strength to you all.
