Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday July 24, 2009 at South Park United Church of Christ with Rev. Bruce Herrboldt officiating. Interment will be at the Scenic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday July 23rd at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home.

Fern Alice Elizabeth Hill, 104, Rapid City died Saturday July 18, 2009 at Golden Livingcenter Prairie Hills. Fern was born on Dec. 28, 1904 in Rapid City to Lewis and Gertrude (Hurlbut) Young, the third of nine children. She graduated from Scenic High School in 1922 and then attended Spearfish Normal (Black Hills State University). She received her teaching certificate in 1924 and taught at two country schools before marrying Clifford Hill on her birthday, Dec. 28, 1927. They were happily married 62 years until his passing in 1989. Fern is survived by three of her four children, Betty Black, Sioux Falls; Art and wife Elinor Hill, Casper, WY; Marjorie and husband John Habinck, Miles City, MT; 23 grandchildren; 57 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren. Fern was active in the Congregational Church of Scenic, plus clubs and social activities of the Scenic area. She was also active in the South Park United Church of Christ, Rapid City and the Minneluzahan Senior Center. Fern and Clifford moved to Rapid Valley after selling their ranch on Hart Table. They resided in the valley for many years and then moved into and apartment in Rapid City. After the passing of her husband, she lived alone until her 101st birthday. She moved to the Golden Livingcenter at that time. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford A. Hill, Jan. 25, 1989; seven brothers, Murin, Bill, Lewis, Warren, Donald, Bob and Harold; one sister, Ester Black; one daughter, Mary Lour Berry; three grandchildren, Glenn Vaughn, Craig Vaughn and Karen Newton and 2 nephews, Jimmy Hill and Marion ‘Slug’ Hill.
