Susan Wold, 83, Rapid City and formerly of Pierre, passed away Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 at the Hospice House after a brief illness. Grounded in the faith, Susan left this world peacefully to join all the saints in Heaven. Eloise Harriett ‘Susan’ Severson was born on April 30, 1927 to Hans and Elise (Stoa) Severson in Victor Township, Marshall County, SD. After graduating from Britton High School in 1944, she attended Northern State College in Aberdeen. She was a teacher at a one-room rural elementary school in the Marshall County School District. While teaching there she met Robert Wold. They were married on Sept. 3, 1949 at the Severson family home. Bob and Susan lived in Webster, Gettysburg and Rapid City before moving to Pierre in 1961. Susan was the secretary at Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre for 26 years, making sure during her tenure that the several ministers that served the Faith congregation knew what they were supposed to be doing. Susan retired in 1988 to enjoy time with Bob and her family. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and volunteered for the Hospice Store, the church pre-school program and numerous other church activities. She was an avid reader, Cross Word Puzzle and Acrostics fan and political commentator. Susan is survived by her three children, William (Susan), Rochester, MN; Richard (Kathleen), Rapid City and Kathleen (Charles) Van Hove, Sioux Falls. In addition, she leaves seven grandchildren, Kari Wold, Hanne Burke, Kirre Wold, Erik Wold, Jennifer Van Hove, Carly Van Hove and Elise Van Hove. Also held dear were many friends, especially her large church family at Faith Lutheran. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her seven siblings. Susan’s family thanks the caregivers at Rapid City Regional Hospital, Prairie Hills Golden Livingcenter, The Victorian Assisted Living and the Hospice House for treating Susan with compassion and respect throughout her illness. They especially thank the staff at Hospice House for the many kindnesses shown to Susan and her family these past few weeks.
