Betty Maxine Davis O’Connor, 91, passed away on Thursday Feb 13, 2014 at the David M Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish, SD. She was born to F.C. (Chuck) and Lottie Carrie (Lockwood) Davis on Nov 30, 1922 in Rockford, IA. She grew up in Hampton, IA and graduated with her Hampton High School class of 1940. Betty entered the US Navy in 1943 during World War II, stationed in Norfolk, VA as a storekeeper 2nd Class. During her service years, she met and married fellow serviceman Charles R ‘Dutch’ O’Connor and they were married 41 years. They were both discharged in 1946 and moved back to her home town of Hampton, IA where they raised two daughters, Bonnie Lynn O’Connor Baker and Barbara Ellen O’Connor Nichols. In the 1960’s they moved to Wells, MN to own and operate Dutch’s Drive Inn and Restaurant. In the ‘80’s, with a love of fishing, they moved in their retirement years to Northome, MN where they owned and operated Little Wolf Fishing and Hunting Resort. In 1986 with the death of Dutch, Betty moved back to Wells, MN. Her last few years were spent close to her daughter Bonnie in a place she loved, the Black Hills of South Dakota. Many days were spent with bird watching, rock hunting and driving through the hills. Betty took great pride in her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sons-in-law and nephews. Betty is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Kent) Baker, Barbara (Ron) Nichols, seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Cathy (Tom) Daily. She is preceded in death by her husband Dutch, her parents and two sisters, Bonnie (Ken) Knapp and Shirley (Jack) Kenealy.
