On Thursday, April 11, 2024, Harold Norman Lund, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and veteran, stepped into the presence of his Lord at the age of 85.

Harry, as he liked to be called, was born Mar 13, 1939 in Lewisville, IN to Dahrl and Mary Lund. One of 10 siblings, dad was number 8. Harry joined the U.S. Air Force in 1962, and began his 20 years of service to our country. Harry specialized in strategic missile maintenance and repair, and was part of the Ellsworth A.F.B. 28 MMS Command. On Jan 15, 1965 he married the love of his life, Bonny Wiederich, in Rapid City, SD, and they enjoyed 59 years of marriage. Together they raised 4 girls, Kim, Tammy, Monica, and Judy. When Harry was 36 years old, he made the important life decision to give his heart to his Savior, Jesus Christ. In 1980, Harry and his family joined in the signing of the Charter, the beginning of Liberty Baptist Tabernacle, with his dear friend and Pastor, the late H. Wayne Williams.

Harry was an exemplary example of a Godly husband and father. Those who knew Harry knew him to be a steadfast servant of Christ, a selfless helper, wood-working and mechanical hobbyist, sudoku master, singer, fixer of all, master of none, and the teller of the best dad jokes.

Harry was preceded in death by his father Dahrl, mother Mary, and his 9 siblings; Dwight (Lee & Herta), Jack (Bob & Thelma), James (Jim & Joan), Joan (& Lee), Geraldine (June & Frank), William (Bill & Sally), Mary (& Irvin), Hubert (Curt & Carol), and Betty (& Roland). He is survived by his wife, Bonny, and his 4 daughters, Kimberly (David Young), Tammy (Carey Sogge), Monica (Dwight Iverson), and Judith Lund. His surviving grandchildren are: Timothy, Stephen, Amanda (Beth), Scott, Justin, and Heather (Kim & David Young); Sheridan and Ted (Tammy & Carey Sogge); Erica, Amanda, Lindsay, Derek & Lucas Iverson, and Kelsi Herrera (Monica & Dwight Iverson), Cody, Hannah, and Wyatt Martin (Judy Lund); and other grandchildren & great-grandchildren, including extended, by love.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to benefit Liberty Baptist Tabernacle Building Fund.

Robert "Bob" Farmer was born August 13th, 1937 to Eulilah (Creasy) and Benjamin Davis Farmer in Swepsonville, North Carolina.

A year after high school he joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base right after basic training. There he met Mary (Ileen} Bertsch. Shortly after, they married on July 4th, 1959 in Rapid City, South Dakota. As Bob would fondly say, "He gave up his independence for the love of his life, Ileen."

In 1978, after 22 years of service he retired from the US Air Force. While in the military he was stationed overseas in Spain and Okinawa and stateside in New Mexico, Virginia, and multiple times in South Dakota. After his military retirement Bob went to work for the Rapid City School District. He also worked at the South Dakota National Guard. Throughout his professional career, Bob was an offset printer.

In his younger years, he loved playing softball. His favorite position was catcher. While stationed in New Mexico, his team represented the Air Force in a national tournament. Bob excelled in bowling. He bowled in many leagues over the years, even participating in two national tournaments in Niagara Falls and Las Vegas. He was a lifelong avid Dodger fan, beginning when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn. Bob enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle and Five Crowns. He also was very lucky at playing the slot machines.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ileen, their daughter Tina and her husband Bill Clarke of Rapid City, South Dakota; grand-daughter Kaylene and her husband Mitchell Martin and great-grandsons Aydan, Jaxsen and Carter Martin of Lincoln, Nebraska and his older sister Lois Farmer of Burlington, North Carolina.

Robert was preceded in death by his son Robert Farmer Jr., his infant son John David Farmer, his younger sister Jeanie Farmer and older brother Benjamin Farmer.

As an Air Force veteran, Bob was proud to serve his country. As a Knight of Columbus 4th Degree, he was proud to serve his church and community. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, papa, and great grandpa. His sense of humor and laughter will be missed by all who knew him. We love you. Rest in Peace.

Wanda Carol (Robinson) Tribble passed away on March 25, 2024, at the Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.

Carol, as most knew her, was born on July 19, 1938 in McNairy County, TN at home to Cora Lee and Buford Robinson. They lived in different locations throughout the south and settled in Pekin, IL where she attended and graduated from Pekin High School in 1956. She worked various jobs in Pekin and later met William “Bill” Tribble and they moved to South Dakota and were married in Lead in July 1967 on her birthday. They lived in Deadwood and had their daughter, LeAnn in February 1968.

She worked in the cafeteria at BHSU, for Deadwood Public Schools, The Drug Store of Deadwood and then started working for Thorpes Black Hills Gold Jewelry in 1979. She continued with Thorpes and moved with them as they transitioned to join Landstrom’s in 1994 when she relocated to Rapid City. She retired from Landstrom’s in 2006.

Carol loved helping others and spent many hours helping get her grandkids transported around the city and area for soccer practices and games during their soccer careers. She loved watching them play. She also loved taking drives around the beautiful Black Hills and was very fond of Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. She enjoyed watching re-runs of old TV shows which she knew most of the episodes by heart. Golden Girls, Murder She Wrote and Everybody Loves Raymond were some of her favorites.

She loved spending time with family and cooking family meals for them that included her awesome fried chicken, chicken and noodles, fried pork chops and vegetable soup. She also was a collector of swans of all types – ceramic, stuffed, wooden, jewelry, etc. Her family helped build her collection by buying them for her for most holidays.

She was a fan of golf although she never played the game. She started watching Tiger Woods and got to know many of the players and was hooked. She knew more about the PGA than most golfers do. She had some favorites and had some she didn’t care for at all and would let you know that.

She was a very special lady who was a favorite any place she went. She lived at There’s A Hart assisted living from early 2020. She wasn’t sure she was going to like it but instantly found an extended family there with the residents and staff. She enjoyed sharing her recipes with them as well as helping find new ideas for meals. She really loved it there.

She is survived by her daughter LeAnn (Rodney) Harlan and grandson Zachary (Katrina) Harlan and great granddaughter Kairi. She is also survived by Evan Wilson and great granddaughter Jordyn Wilson and great grandson EJ Wilson, her sister Betty (Denny) Urish, brothers Scott (Robyn) Busby and Richard Busby, and stepchildren Patty (Donny) Allen family, James (Nancy) Tribble family and Mike (Nadine) Tribble.

She is preceded in death by her husband William Tribble, mother Cora Lee Busby, Father Buford Robinson, step-dad Earl Busby, brothers Larry Busby and Kevin Busby, sister Bonnie Snyder and her granddaughter Jacqueline Wilson.

Ruth A. Huber born on April 19, 1958 in Clovis, New Mexico, to Billie and Mabel (Huntley) Wright. Ruth’s initials before she got married were spelled RAW and in reverse was WAR. Coming from a military family with 7 other brothers and sisters, she was strong-willed and knowing what she wanted was the foundation of who she was.

After marriage, in 1976, her initials became RAH and HAR. Which lead to a lot of laughs and good times. Ruth’s honeymoon was spent in the car, on a country road in Wyoming waking up to a cow licking the car window. For the first 24 years, she was both father and mother to the 4 children she brought into this world and nurtured, when Victor, her husband of 48 years, was deployed while serving in the Air Force.

Ruth never wanted for herself, always others first. Her passions were family, friends, camping, fishing, the farm, and gardening. She touched so many people and helped this world to be a much better place. You will be missed and loved by many. Our love, thoughts and prayers will always be present. Until the next adventure, when we are together again.

Ruth is survived by husband Victor L. Huber, daughters Emily (James) Bialota, Leeanna (Marco) Behr. Sons Johnathan Huber and Victor “Petey” Huber, Jr. Sisters Linda Oliver, Arkansas, Dorcas (Jeff) Hern, Rapid City. Brothers James Wright, Wyoming, Willard Wright, Arizona, William, Melvin, Kenneth Wright all of Rapid City.

She is preceded in death by her parents and grandsons Wilson and Braeden Huber.

The family would like to share some memories that are dear to their hearts:

Leeanna--

Mom,

Words can’t describe how much I miss you. How I feel like a piece is missing. Some of my fondest memories are of Halloween. We always went all out when I was younger. I remember asking you all the time if I could put makeup on your face. You always allowed me to. I am happy that I recently got to see you. I will miss our FaceTime calls and just hearing your voice. I wish we had just a little more time, but the time we did have, I will cherish. Till we see each other again, Mom. Love you now and always, your baby girl.

Victor Jr (Petey)--

When I would get home from work, Mom would sometimes be sitting on the couch. Together we would wait for Jeopardy to come on and try to be smarter than the daily contestants. Mom was always ready to try my new snacks, unless it had tapioca or black licorice in it. She would often show me her new puzzle or a cute animal she had seen and taken a picture.

Sara C. Parsons, 91, of Rapid City, SD, passed away on February 27, 2024.

Sarah Ella Cloninger was born at home in Mount Holly, Gaston County, North Carolina on 20 January 1933. Her parents were Charles Corbett “Charlie” Cloninger Sr. (1895-1973) and Ella “Ellawee” Rummage (1898-1942).

To correct a “pigeon toe” condition, doctors at the North Carolina Orthopedic Hospital had Sara wear lace-up “Mother Goose” high-top shoes on the wrong feet until she was in the first grade! On 10 September 1936, during treatment at the hospital in Gastonia, young Sara and her father met President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (“FDR”) who spoke with her father and held Sara’s hand. Later that day, FDR gave his famous “Green Pastures” speech in nearby Charlotte.

In early grade school Sara unofficially dropped the “h” from the end of her given name to avoid confusion between her and a classroom friend who was also named Sarah, never using the “h” on her name again. When Sara was nine, her mother passed away from acute lymphocytic leukemia and the following year her father married Zephia Adeline “Bummy” Bumgardner (1900-1968) who became very close to Sara.

In 1951 Sara graduated from Mount Holly High School where she played the clarinet and was in the girls’ chorus. In July 1954, while working in Memphis, Tennessee for Fidelity Life Insurance, Sara met her future husband Donald Jean “Don” Parsons (1930-2012) at the United Service Organization. He was a U.S. Navy instructor in nearby Millington, Tennessee. In December 1954 they were married by family friend Father Martin “Pop” Hayes, O.S.B. in Belmont Abbey in Gaston County, North Carolina.

In 1965 Sara, her husband Don, and their four young children (Doug, Candice, Cindy, and Roxy) settled in Rapid City, South Dakota. Sara will be remembered as a good mother, skilled bowler and bridge player, but a less-than-stellar cook (unless frozen TV dinners count)! She and Don developed a thriving Internet-based business, Parsons’ Minerals & Fossils. They were avid field collectors frequenting South Dakota’s Black Hills mines and Badlands fossil collecting locales. They were married for 58 years when Don passed away from lung cancer in 2012.

Sara died peacefully on 27 February 2024 in Rapid City, South Dakota following a short battle with a combination of physical health issues and a concurrent rapid onset of dementia. She was preceded in death by her siblings Shirley Virginia Cloninger (1919-2000), Charles Corbett “Charles” Cloninger Jr. (1923-2013), and Elizabeth Rose “Lib” Cloninger (1925-2006). Sara is survived by her four children and their spouses: Doug and Kay, Candice and Marlin, Cindy, and Roxy and Harlan; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Sara’s ashes will be interred with those of her husband Don at the Black Hills National Cemetery, on March 15, 2024 at 1:00 pm. and scattered at the gravesite of close family friends at the nearby Keystone Cemetery in sight of Mount Rushmore.

It is with deep remorse that we announce Timothy, “Tim” Ray Parker,68, born in Sioux Falls, SD on February 21, 1956, has peacefully passed away in Rapid City, SD on February 22, 2024. Tim leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by all who knew him.

Growing up, Tim was, without question, the troublemaker of the Parker family. He made sure to give his parents and siblings a hard time, tormenting them all to no end. Good luck catching him to punish him though, he was as fast as lightning! Funny enough they later realized that’s just how he showed his love. You never had to second guess if Tim liked you or not because if he was picking on you, or giving you a hard time, you were without question, in knowing that you were now a huge part of his life, and he treated you like family.

Tim attended Washington High in Sioux Falls, SD and later worked various jobs throughout his life including: thirty years of service to the public school systems, working for both the Sioux Falls and Rapid City school districts. He made numerous connections, and many lifelong friends along this journey that always counted on him for a funny joke, or a good time.

Outside of work, Tim found joy in various hobbies and interests. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, WWE wrestling, and despite the grief from his friends and family, a huge Green Bay Packer fan. He could often be found spending time at the local speedway, fueling his passion for the thrill of racing, and having a few beers at the local pub with his best friends and family. Anytime you needed a drinking buddy, or someone to celebrate with, Tim was there, and he was the life of the party.

Among his most cherished activities was playing Santa Claus for local charities and bringing smiles to children and families during the holiday season. With his: bright white beard, windsor glasses and joyful laughter, he was a spitting image of jolly old Saint Nick.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents Katherine and Jack Parker Sr, as well as his sisters Wendy Jones and Kari Heng. Tim is survived by his: sister, Debbie Newman and brothers Jack Parker Jr, and Michael Parker. He also leaves behind seven nieces and nephews, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews all of whom he adored dearly.

In honoring his memory, let us celebrate the life of a kind-hearted man who touched the hearts of many and will forever be remembered for his: laughter, jokes, and unwavering love for those around him. Rest in peace, Timothy Ray. Your spirit lives on in the memories you created and the lives you touched. May you find eternal peace in the arms of the angels.

Joshua Jacob Hatten (Ho Wa?te – Good Voice) was born on October 3, 1996, in Rapid City, South Dakota to Pete and Lisa Hatten. As a young boy, he enjoyed playing videogames, playing basketball, fishing and hunting, and singing his little heart out. He was adventurous, brave, laidback, witty, goofy, and knew just what to say to make you smile and laugh. He had no fear and was always so excited to sing or pray in front of the whole congregations. When he prayed, he talked to God as if he knew Him on a close, personal level all his life.

He started walking at 9 months old and from that point, he was on the go. He was mischievous and curious. Trying to discipline him was a challenge. When he was “sentenced” to couch time, he would simply take a nap and wake up more energized for mischief. He kept the whole family on their toes. His cute, little face and infectious smile made it easy for him to manipulate the whole family especially his Aunty Sheryl. Despite having teeth concerns and being told he couldn’t have his bottle, when left in her care, she caved. When it was time to be picked up, he sold her out immediately. But still there was no way to be upset. He was just too cute.

School work was not a challenge for him. He was very intelligent. His only challenge was sitting still. He attended South Canyon Elementary in Rapid City, South Dakota where in 2nd grade was finally diagnosed with ADD. He was blessed with a team of teachers who did all they could to ensure Joshua received the best education plan and support. He then went onto West Middle School then attended Stevens High School and Rapid City High School. He graduated in 2016 with his diploma from Stevens High School.

After school was finished the world was his. His strongest interest was fixing vehicles. He attempted to teach himself how to work on vehicles but would occasionally have to find his dad, sit there quietly and stare at him until his dad asked him if he needed help. Together they would do the repairs as his dad taught and Joshua learned.

He struggled with addiction and mental illness, but this did not stop him from making sure all of those who God put in his path felt loved. He was always the first to make sure his friends and family were taken care of and that they knew they were always on his mind and heart. He would drop anything to make sure he was there when they needed him. He would never pass by someone stranded on the side of the road and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for those around him - stranger, family, or friend. He saw people for their heart, and not the situation or addiction that may have engulfed them.

Despite the enemy’s attempts to thwart God’s purpose for Joshua’s life, he was no match for Joshua’s stubborn, determined spirit to spread God’s Love. As a family we would attempt to bring him to church with us every Sunday, we didn’t understand his lifestyle and thought we could save him. Little did we know, he was out there being the church, doing God’s work in his own way, and saving so many others.

His worldly presence will truly be missed, but he is alive in the love he had shown all of those around him. We ask that you continue showing that love, love like Jesus does…love like Josh did.

Joshua is survived by his parents, Pete and Lisa Hatten; his siblings, Arlen Hatten, Larissa Hatten, Elijah Hatten, Isaiah Hatten, and Nevaeh Hatten; his nieces, Kaylynn Hill, Kylie Hill, and Elena Hatten; his grandmother, LaVonne Looking Elk; and numerous uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces, nephews, and one grandchild, Sebashtian “Magnus” Sheeder.

Joshua was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Peter Eli Hatten and Lynda Ducheneaux; his maternal grandfather, Rev. Simon Looking Elk; and his aunty, Jonie Ducheneaux.

Monte Madison, 69, of Rapid City, South Dakota, passed away on January 31, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family.

Monte was born December 10, 1954, in Rapid City, South Dakota to Stanley and Marilynn (Hayes) Madison. He attended Doty School, West Junior High and Stevens High School. After graduation, he met the love of his life, Rita Richardson and they married December 20, 1975. Their union was blessed with three daughters; Andrea, Bryana and Kaley.

Monte worked as a carpenter, building and designing residential homes in the area. His favorite build was the home in which he raised his family. He also worked at the Civic Center as a Sound Engineer and rigger for over 30 years. Monte’s passion was music. He played in many of the top area bands which included Straw Dogs, Ivory, Ambush, Madison Avenue, and the Abbey Road Tribute Band. His love of music led him to create his own sound company, Star Mountain Recording Studios and then the Madison Sound Production Company.

In addition, Monte loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He made it his personal mission to share that joyous relationship with everyone. It is a source of great comfort to his loving family and friends, knowing that he is now enjoying the presence of his Lord face to face.

Monte is survived by his wife Rita, daughters Andrea, Bryana and Kaley, eight grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, a brother, Michael Madison, and a sister, Mavis Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to Cornerstone Rescue Mission.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful team at Stillwater Hospice and also to Dr. Petereit. They are also very grateful for the outpouring of love and support from our church family and friends.

Dr. Paul F. Gnirk, 86, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Jan. 29, 2024 at the Hospice House in Rapid City.

He grew up on the family farm outside of Burke that was homesteaded by his grandparents Gustav and Katherine Gnirk. He attended a one room schoolhouse for eight years. His drive to learn came from his parents and grandparents, who recognized the importance of formal education, even though their own was limited.

In October 1949, Paul contracted Polio. With help from a newly developed Polio vaccine and his strong will to overcome any obstacle, Paul recovered after four months and advanced to the eighth grade. Paul made the honor roll every semester thereafter. His extracurricular activities included football, track, editor of the school newspaper and secretary of the Senior class. He graduated from Burke High School in May 1955.

He attended South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in the Fall of 1955 and graduated with honors in the Spring of 1959 with a degree in Mining Engineering. Paul was a member of the SDSM&T wrestling team and was awarded the M letter. He was President of the Drill & Crucible Club and recipient of Kennecott Copper Corp. scholarships.

He married Marilyn Rasmussen of Gregory, SD on August 9, 1957. They had three children, Brian, who died two days after birth, a daughter Erica Lynn, and a son Aaron Russell.

Paul entered Graduate School at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1959, majoring in Rock Mechanics and minoring in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering. He was the recipient of both US Steel and Reserve Mining Company Fellowships. He was awarded the PhD degree in 1966.

In the Fall of 1963, Paul began his teaching career in the Dept. of Mining Engineering at SDSM&T. He taught undergraduate and graduate courses in rock mechanics. He was appointed as the Director of the fledgling computer center and developed and taught the introductory computer course for Sophomores.

In the Fall of 1965, Paul began as a Research Associate in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas. There he developed a rock mechanics laboratory and authored numerous technical publications. During the summers he worked at the Shell Development Company research facility.

Paul returned to Rapid City in 1967 and continued his teaching career in the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at SDSM&T. In 1969, he received the first Standard Oil Foundation Good Teaching Award for a faculty member in the Division of Engineering at SDSM&T. In 1970, Paul was recognized as an Outstanding Educator of America. The 1971 edition of the SDSM&T student annual was dedicated to Paul. Late 1973, Paul resigned his faculty position and became a full-time employee of RE/SPEC Inc.

In the spring of 1969 while still at SDSM&T, Paul led the start of a company that specialized in scientific and engineering research. RE/SPEC Inc. was incorporated in June 1969 and was awarded their first major contract in 1972. Paul was President of RE/SPEC from 1969-1991 and retired from RE/SPEC in 1993. During his time leading RE/SPEC he was involved in numerous large projects for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, Battelle Memorial Institute, Battelle Northwest Laboratory, and the U. From 1980 to 1992, Paul was one of DOE's representatives to the Organization for Economic and Cooperative Development on the Nuclear Energy Agency's International Stipa Project in Sweden.

In 1992, Paul created Table Top Ranch Inc. and went on to become a full-time rancher north of New Underwood, raising registered Longhorn cows and black Angus bulls until he was hospitalized in December 2023. While ranching, he also continued to serve SDSM&T and the State of SD, donating his time and expertise to a variety of projects and organizations.

The project supplies water from two deep-aquifer wells to some 70 ranches that encompass approximately 250 square miles of land located north of New Underwood, SD.

Paul was appointed to the Board of Water & Natural Resources for South Dakota by Governor Rounds in 2009. He served on this board as their only engineer until he passed away.
